LVT-NEXUS: The Mucosal Delivery Platform
Why target the mucosa?
Infectious diseases remain one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Vaccination is currently the most effective approach to protecting and treating populations.
However, current vaccines, which are administered systemically, only protect against severe forms of the disease and do not effectively block transmission between individuals. They have a very limited effect on mucosal immunity, which is the entry point for pathogens. Consequently, pathogens can replicate there and spread between individuals despite vaccination. In contrast, a nasal vaccine induces a protective systemic immune response and a local response within the nasal mucosa. This local immunity can neutralise the pathogen upon entry, thereby reducing the risk of transmission. Targeting mucous membranes is therefore a significant technological advantage. However, mucous membranes are designed to rapidly eliminate biomolecules. Overcoming this barrier paves the way for a new generation of vaccines. This is the mission of the LVT-NEXUS mucosal delivery platform.
LVT-NEXUS: The Mucosal Delivery Platform
LVT-NEXUS is a mucosal delivery platform designed to deliver various types of biomolecule (such as proteins, mRNA and viruses) for preventive or therapeutic purposes. It is based on LVT-ME, our proprietary mucosal excipient that carries, protects and releases biomolecules within the mucosa. Without this protection, the mucosa would rapidly eliminate the biomolecule.
The primary application of LVT-NEXUS is the treatment of infectious diseases. In this context, LVT-NEXUS enables intranasal vaccines to be administered locally to induce a broad-spectrum immune response, both systemic and mucosal. Our goal is to provide optimal protection regardless of pathogen variability and to block transmission between individuals in order to achieve sterilising immunity.
The platform combines three components:
1. A biomolecule
Several types of biomolecule (such as proteins, mRNA and viruses) are compatible with LVT-NEXUS, which is what makes it a platform rather than a single product. Our first vaccine, LVT-001, is the clinical proof of this concept. its Phase 1 trial has been completed and Phase 2 is set to begin in November 2026. Other products are currently in the discovery phase.
2. LVT-ME: the proprietary muco-excipient at the heart of LVT-NEXUS
Developed by Lovaltech under GMP conditions, LVT-ME enables the delivery of biomolecules to the nasal mucosa. This adjuvant-free muco-excipient ensures the optimal delivery of biomolecules.
3. A nasal spray

LVT-NEXUS, the universal mucosal delivery platform
LVT-NEXUS is designed to adapt to different biomolecules. We use the same platform to treat several infectious diseases and beyond.

LVT-001: Clinical Proof of Concept for LVT-NEXUS
The LVT-001 vaccine represents a significant milestone as the first to be developed using the advanced LVT-NEXUS platform. It combines LVT-ME with two SARS-CoV-2 targets: the spike protein and the nucleoprotein.
The majority of current vaccines focus exclusively on the spike protein. However, this protein is known to mutate rapidly, which can reduce the effectiveness of the immune response and ongoing vaccine development is required. Recent research has demonstrated that other regions of the virus, such as the nucleoprotein, exhibit minimal variation and contribute to a protective immune response.
By targeting these two components, LVT-001 is designed to provide broader protection against variants and limit viral transmission. The Phase 1 clinical trial has now been completed, and Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in November 2026. The LVT-001 model shows how LVT-NEXUS is able to bring a vaccine to the clinical stage.
